In our home we have ‘summer curtains’ plus a summer layout for the lounge. We clean and style up the fireplace, remove the rugs and blankets and generally refresh the room for summer. I do the same with my skin, my summer skincare routine varies from my winter one. My skin has different needs in summer as opposed to Winter.

Summer skincare VS Winter skincare
I usually start each season with an exfoliating, cleansing facial and it is pure joy!
Has your local beauty salon opened yet? My hairdressers are open, I had my hair cut and coloured last week. Plus, I notice the nail technicians are open for business too. My beauty salon is open but not for facial care yet for obvious reasons. So, it is back to ‘at home’ DIY beauty care for me.
Where to Find Skincare Information:
As I enter my late fifties, I find choosing new skincare products totally overwhelming. Do you know your retinol from your Glycolic? I must admit I did not and was determined to learn more. Where to look…
Blogs and Vlogs
I now subscribe to a few ‘Grown up’ Beauty Blogs and Vlogs. Not the blogs that try to sell me things but the ones that give me information and honest reviews! I will write about a few of my favourites very soon. I devour magazines and I love the Sunday papers for all new skincare product reviews…
Browse Online Stores
I also browse online and read about newly launched summer skincare products. Boots is one of my favourite stores in real life and online, with the best skincare products too!
My At Home Summer Skincare Routine:
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]My top Tip: By day you protect your skin, in the evening you treat and repair it![/perfectpullquote]
1 Cleanse, Cleanse, Cleanse!
I keep it simple, but cleansing is the most important step…
In the morning, a light cleanse and in the evening a double cleanse. I never ever use anything foaming (too drying) I use *Liz Earle’s Cleanse and Polish Hot cloth Cleanser day and night. Right now, Boots are selling a brilliant 100ml starter kit that comes with two cloths and a zip up travel bag.
2. Apply eye cream and hydrate skin with a facial mist.
Buy products that suit your skin type, my eye cream is for mature skin. I then clean my teeth whilst I am waiting for the facial mist to dry a little.
3. Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise!
I have recently discovered *The Inkey List Peptide Moisturiser a brilliant cream that helps reduce the signs of aging. I use a pea size amount both in the morning.
INKEY Info:
- 2% Royal Epigen P5 helps contribute to firm, even skin with a decreased appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- 1% Hydrating Peptide Solution supports your skin’s natural moisture barrier for visibly radiant skin
4. SPF, do not go anywhere without applying this!
I wish I had known about the aging effects of the sun’s rays when I was younger. Not just wearing SPF when you sunbathe but wearing it every day. Those burning rays UVA and UVB can penetrate glass! Now I wear it everyday even if I am not going out! My present preferred summer skincare SPF product is by *La Roche Posay Anthelios. I use the tinted one, its brilliant!
It has an SPF of 50+ is specially formulated for sensitive skin and does not sting your eyes! I am using the tinted version.
5. At Night I cleanse twice…
I make sure I remove all the SPF. At night I replace my moisturiser with a night cream and of course leave out the SPF.
6. The Weekly Treat.
Once a week I will treat myself to an exfoliating mask and a lie down… until my local beauty salon starts facial treatments again!
