As a resident of the UK, I consider myself lucky to experience four seasons in the year. I know not everyone loves all the seasons all the time, I will admit to loving Autumn best of all (I was an October baby, so it makes sense that I enjoy those 3 months) As the seasons change, so do our lives, our wardrobes and our homes. I always swap the décor around, especially in our main family rooms. I have summer and winter cushions and curtains. Plus I rearrange the furniture, as we now don’t need the open log fire as a focus for the room. In this post you can see how I changed the our room from a winter to a summer bedroom …

Seasonal Decor Changes
In summer we open the windows, eat and live outside far more. We prefer to sleep under linen sheets instead of blankets and duvets. In summer I want space and light, in winter I want cosy nooks, velvet cushions and woven welsh blankets on the sofas.

With this in mind, we recently gave our bedroom a summer refresh, we lightened and brightened the room. The result was a fresher, calmer environment, more conducive to a better-quality sleep. So, what did we do?
4 Simple changes we made that refreshed our bedroom for Summer.
The simplest, easiest and by far the best change was to remove the TV! I had been wanting to do it for ages. I don’t like ‘tech’ in rooms that are meant for sleeping in. We are both pleased with the result. It took up a large space too, one that is now used for fragrances and some treasured family photos.

New Curtains. I know this idea is a no brainer! These beautiful new linen curtains, a gift from Laura Ashley, come ready made with metal eyelets. In a dove grey and white stripe, perfect for the summer months. Our other pair were darker and heavier, made from a woolen tweed, we still like them but not for summer. I asked Marc to paint the headboard white. Did you know he built this bed, from scratch? I wrote about it in 2016. As usual with our interior decor, I like to change it up every 2-3 years. The old headboard was beginning to look tired and far too orange for my liking. The white reflects more light and pulls the focus back to the details of the room. Form and function at its best!

After 2019: A summer bedroom refresh
New bed linen, now again I realise new sheets and pillowcases, always lift a room. This time I was looking for white bedding, in pure linen. Unfortunately, the white version had sold out so (unusually for me) I chose ‘old rose’ aka pink! for our summer bedroom

Small & Simple Changes are the most cost effective.
This room feels calmer, brighter and fresher but without the drama and mess of redecorating. All it took was an online shopping trip, and some old leftover paint to turn this room into a summer bedroom…
