You may have seen from my Instagram stories last week, that we visited Brighton for a mini seaside getaway. Marc and I love to take mini breaks in the UK, apparently there is even a term for it ‘Holiday Snacking’ as in taking lots of mini breaks instead of one annual vacation. I used to live in Brighton, I bought my own flat there in the 90’s, so it is a city I know and love. This time the teen came too, and we spent a wonderful time as a trio of tourists!

The weather was predicted to be bright but muggy with showers and sunshine, a typical UK weather pattern. So, what to pack for a couple of days away at the beginning of the ‘Great British Summer’? Sounds like a good title for a new TV program doesn’t it?
Summer City dressing
Summer dressing for the city can be tricky. The question is always what to wear during the day that’s chic but comfy and suitable for the British weather, aka rain and/or shine? The answer is a lightweight smart but casual jacket that goes with everything and anything. Then as usual for me jeans and a couple of tops or t-shirts and a casual dress. Trainers and a slightly smarter shoe or sandal. I Actually ended up wearing my smart trainers all the time. It goes without saying that I didn’t buy new, everything I packed and wore was from my wardrobe, old, loved and worn many times before…

My Boy took these images and I love them!
When my 17 year old son takes my pictures, he manages to get an urban edge to them, which makes me feel cool. plus we always have a laugh at how ridiculous the whole blogger situation can be…
An A-line dress and black over-sized Blazer from last year, both from Cos and my usual black and white trainers also from last year. My vintage basket came too. After all, there no better place to take a mini picnic basket, than to the English seaside, right?
More gorgeous and similar style dresses from Cos here, well worth the investment, the quality and finish is to a very high standard.
I also packed my favourite Marks and Spencer’s wide legged cropped jeans, I have worn them sooo many times. I have these in denim and in Ivory too.
Artist Residence Brighton Hotel.
We stayed in the fabulous Artist Residence Hotel and I would recommend it to everyone, especially if you prefer your hotels with an eccentric spirit and lashings of style! I am planning a visit to the new Bristol one when it opens soon, but the old man doesn’t know about it yet! (shhhhhhh)
