April is almost here! Sunshine and flowers, let’s not mention the showers? We have been tiding the garden and cleaning up the garden furniture. So in honour of British Summer time arriving this weekend I have been crocheting squares to make up into a cosy garden blanket that will be perfect for those cooler summer evenings outside…
A ‘Vintage Walrus’ Crochet Garden Blanket.
The Pattern:
I think this is a strange name for a pattern but I’m sure there is an interesting story behind it?
Here is the link to the garden blanket pattern, designed by Lucia’s Fig Tree.
I am using a 4 mm crochet hook and dk acrylic.

Using up all my scrap yarn…
I am using up all my yarn scraps, whilst trying to be remain as true as possible to Lucia’s original colours. Scrap blankets are difficult, its hard to judge how far the yarn will reach. So far I am very very happy with it… although I must admit I’m not sure if this garden blanket will be ready in time for summer. I manage about 2 squares a day at the moment and the original pattern asks for 63!
One square at a time:
The pattern uses, the popcorn, treble, single crochet and chain stitches. Easy to follow and the resulting textural squares are a joy to behold. The only thing I would like is a stitch diagram. I have made 22 squares so far, that means only 41 to go!
I crochet whilst watching the television in the evenings. Easy to do during the dull winter months, but come the lighter summer evenings I will be wanting to go out more. I’ve worked out at this rate, the garden blanket might just get finished in time for Autumn. I need some crochet elves to help me out!

So what do you think? Would you snuggle under a lovely garden blanket like this one during the summer evenings? Preferably whilst sipping wine and listening to the logs crackling in the fire pit eh?
Enjoy your weekend, what ever you do!
