5 Reasons Why You Should Refresh Your Blog Every Season
Do you refresh your wardrobe every season? For instance at the end of Autumn do you put your t-shirts away and make your knitwear more accessible? I am sure you do at least one of those things I know I do. If you are a blogger with a personal blog, or a business with a website you should be doing the same thing. So why should you refresh your blog every season? Our blogs change and evolve with our lives, make sure you reflect that change with a quick blog design refresh. Read on and I’ll explain more…

5 Reasons Why you should Refresh your Blog every season
They do say “a change is as good as a rest” now I dont know who ‘they’ are but I do thoroughly agree with this old saying.
First impressions are everything, a blog that has not been updated in a while looks uncared for, out of date and neglected, perhaps this is a representation of the contents too? Whereas a blog that has had a seasonal refresh suggests the writer is organised, on top of the game and possibly up to the minute on what he/she has to say too?
Think of a favourite blog, imagine it’s the depth of winter, and you are curled up on the sofa reading their latest blog post. You love this blog and read every post, the profile picture is of the blogger in a summer dress which makes you long for summer to return. Then you notice another of your favoured bloggers has just put up a new profile image of herself in a super winter coat, taken beside a vibrant coloured Autumn tree. You are intrigued, you want to read more, maybe you like her coat or maybe it just suits the mood of the moment, because its winter. Either way which one do you think will draw you in for a read?
1: If you only do one thing to refresh your blog do this…
The first thing I would suggest for a quick and simple refresh of your blog is to change your profile picture, make sure it reflects the season. I suggest not having a picture of you wearing a summer dress on the beach if we are in the middle of winter.
I recently changed mine from this to this, no huge changes, just a more appropriate look for autumn and winter and it only took 5 minutes!

A Top Tip
If you have time, change your social media profile pictures to0, this will give you a consistent ‘look’ throughout your online accounts.
2: Sidebar Adverts
Do you have affiliate adverts on your sidebar or elsewhere? If so these will also need updating. For instance check you do not have any swimwear ads in autumn, or coats in summer! Go back to your affiliate host and copy new codes for every ad you run on your site. I actually try to do this every month, afterall you are trying to capture an audience.
A word on adverts:
Look at your blog from a readers perspective check to see if the adverts are detract from your content. For example if you are a style blogger, dont advertise interior products, stick to fashion otherwise it’s confusing for your reader. Or if you write about high street style, dont advertise high end or expensive products, again you will be sending the wrong messages. Stick to adverts that sit well with your niche. I would also advise 5 ads in total, or your site will look very spammy and cheap.
3: About me pages and profile descriptions.
When was the last time you read your own ‘about me’ descriptions? Either on a page or the one below your profile picture. Has anything changed in the last 6 months, have you achieved a personal goal, did you work with a new brand (or your fist brand) did you run 5K is there something you are proud of? Tell us all about it, you will be suprised how many people read your about page. It is the first thing I look at when I discover a new blog. It goes back to those important first impressions. Include a photo on your about page too and make sure you keep that updated. Not everyone will click to your home page! If you haven’t got an about page, get one now.

4: Contact Information.
Possibly the most important information your blog or website can display. Take a look at yours, where is it, is it easy to find? Have you updated it recently or have you tried to contact yourself to check everything is working?
A Top Tip for your contact page.
Why not add your social media channels to your about page, a good way to provide alternative contact information.
5: Categories:
Are your categories up to date? Have you started focusing on a new category that is not yet on your menu? Have you stopped writing about a certain category. Blogs evolve naturally over time, the topics you first started writing about may have faded into the background. My own blog has gone from a craft and diy blog to a fully fledged lifestyle blog that encompasses all areas of my creative life, not just sewing and crochet. Make sure your categories reflect what your blog is all about. Concentrate on the things you write about all the time…and dont have too many categories.
