Vintage September wearing another pink dress in a Dorset field

The first of my monthly vintage outfit posts. For vintage september Im wearing another pink dress. Except this pink dress is very old, much older than the one I wore before

Why I’m writing a monthly vintage outfit post.

I have a lot of clothes, in fact I have far too many clothes, I could never wear them all. So why do I buy more? Maybe because I’m lured into ‘keeping up’ ? Nope thats not it, I’ve never been one to follow the herd. I do my own thing, always have done, call me snobby if you like and that’s ok with me, but the minute a ‘trend’ emerges then I no longer want to wear it.

I think I buy more because I become bored with what I already have. Now I want to consume less, when I do buy more I want to buy better. I wrote an intro to my thoughts recently that may explain a little more.

…call me snobby if you like and that’s ok with me, but the minute a ‘trend’ emerges then I no longer want to wear it.

Vintage September

Without further ado may I introduce to you Miss Vintage September… A sheer and floating beauty, with trumpet sleeves and a glorious 1970’s pink and green floral print… I have had this dress many years and I think it was from a boot fair. The lady was selling off all her vintage stock and it happened to fit me, so we bought almost all of it!

Straight cut and fully lined, I am positive this dress was handmade. It has all the trademarks of a professional seamstress, beautifully neatened seams and a hand finished hem. Another thing that indicates its age is the metal TEX zip.

An ‘A’ line cut with a maxi length. Gorgeous sleeves so feminine without being over the top and that print makes me smile everytime I see it. Pink and green were meant to be seen right?

So what is a girl to do when confronted with a dress like this? Pop it on and prance around in a country lane, then wear it to have lunch at our local pub, thats what! I must add that a lady approached me to tell me her Mum had a similar dress back in the 60’s!

I may shorten the length, gently wash it and store it away for next summer. What do you think?

I am keeping this vintage Sseptember dress, it has lots of wear left in it, is unique and probably has a story to tell\/ That is precisely what I love about ‘pre loved’ clothes they have been worn and enjoyed. I may shorten the length, gently wash it and store it away for next summer. What do you think?

Where to Buy.

I buy from my local charity shops and from boot fairs in the summer.

If you dont have a decent local charity shop, did you know you can buy vintage clothes from Oxfam online? Grab a beautiful preloved item, save the planet from landfill waste and your money goes to a good cause…win win win!

That s a fabulous dress! Such beautiful colors! Do you think you can buy better from a charity shop then a second hand shop in the UK? There are great shops in Lewes where I want to browser next week.

      Hi Nancy
I used to live near Lewes its a lovely town!
Yes charity shops are cheaper, but you have to be lucky to pick up a vintage piece!
      Enjoy your trip!
      Bestest wishes

    Brilliant idea Ashley!
I’m the same as you about trends. I get all uppity when I see too much of a look I love because I feel cheated and end up not wearing it. Obviously everything’s been done before but sometimes a trend goes so viral it’s completely ruined for me forever. I’m starting to feel this way about leopard even though I love it and have been looking forward to pulling my old pieces out of storage. It’s still so bloody hot here, I’m hoping the leopard trend will come and go before I get around to wearing mine 😉
