Regular readers will know that I have a very talented other half also known as ‘ Restoration Marc ‘ (with a C please don’t forget that C) An engineer by trade but so much more than that … He can mend anything and I do mean anything. A perfectionist when it comes to painting and decorating, he can make me anything care to dream up, builds walls, fells trees, lays a mean patio and is a bit of a whizz with the plumbing and electricity. Plus if he can’t do it he will always know someone who can. What a man eh?

The Latest Restoration: from Barn Auction to pride of place.
As well as fulfilling my many requests he will occasionally pick up a project of his own. He will then spend every spare hour, believe me he doesn’t have many of those, stripping, blasting and polishing until a rusty piece of rubbish becomes something astonishingly, beautiful that I welcome into our home.
As I write this he is at another barn Auction and I’m selfishly hoping he doesn’t find anything because our ensuite bathroom is now in need of a complete refurbish. Selfish moi?

This Restoration Backstory:
One Sunday morning I received an excited text from him, he was at the local Barn Auction and had found something… These are the pictures he sent me via his phone:
In reply I said ” lovely darling, can you pick up a pint of milk on your way home?

I then thought nothing of it, until he asked me to take some before photos of his new project! Turns out it is a very well made old industrial light. He had to bid hard for it because there was so much interest in it!
The Lamp Before Restoration:
The Stand Before Restoration :
Apparently it needed a stand of the same era, he was lucky to find one on ebay that would have been used by a surveyor before the digital age. Unfortunately one leg was damaged and it had been painted all over with a hideous matte black paint , covering the beautiful wood and old brass fittings beneath. It was in a sorry state and desperately in need of some TLC and a full restoration…
The Lamp & Stand After Restoration:
These pics were taken in his workshop, so not pretty, but you get the idea… Amazing eh?
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] … and this is what it looks like in our home today: [/perfectpullquote]
After Restoration and in our Home:
The wallpaper in our smallest sitting room is by Mini Moderns it is called Moordale
How about the light, what do you think? I am astonished at how beautiful it turned out to be…. now we just need to move to a house with higher ceilings!
A quick recap for you…
In a matter of weeks it went …
