Easy Summer Stripes For A Formal Lunch

Formal lunch dates tend to put me in a tailspin, the ‘what to wear’ question always looms large. I prepare by having a few ‘try on’ sessions and for some reason I always start with my shoes! This particular lunch date will be a smart one so no jeans or casual wear this time. Summer stripes from J D Williams came to my rescue, this dress is perfect in every way with some super little details…

Summer Stripes I prefer mine to be vertical.

I am not a huge fan of the breton stripe however, I do wear them occasionally.  I prefer my stripes to be vertical, they will usually help to make me slimmer and taller, always a bonus. Horizontal stripes tend to squash me up into a square shape!

You may have already seen my post about this clever vertical striped Kimono?

My top tip for solving the ‘what to wear’ dilema

When I start to panic about what to wear the first thing I tell myself is to keep it simple. For instance I won’t wear jewelry if it means I will fiddle with it, or it will feel heavy, or rub my neck. I never wear new shoes. If you want want to create an impression. You need to be able to forget about what you are wearing, you want to relax and just be yourself.

I have a little formula for this, it helps me to remember:

Simple + Comfortable = CONFIDENT

This dress is my perfect idea of summer stripes it is cool and comfy to wear. It gathers via metal eyelets from the sides seams, so you can wear it loose or tighten it around your waist as I have. The back has no gathers, see below.

l also plan to wear it undone with my jeans, a white t-shirt and trainers…show you on my instagram later so make sure you are following me on IG?

  2. You look gorgeous in your lunch outfit Ashley! Love the pop of red in the shoe. I wear trainers to and from a venue often, unless the shoes are well worn in. Nothing more distracting than painful feet! xx

      Hi Maria, Thank you…
Yes me too trainers are for traveling in especially on and off trains (or running to catch them!)

That’s excellent advice Ashley. I learned recently not to wear new shoes from a blistering experience in NYC.
What I’d have given to take those shoes off & walk bare foot! Terribly distracting & painful lunch date ?

Oh I feel your pain I have done that and been there far too many times! I hope the lunch went well/
