The Head Wrap Trend I’m Secretly Wearing At Home

As a woman of a certain age, I have seen a few trends come and go and come around again. This one has slowly been creeping up on me. At first it reminded me of the icon that was Hilda Ogden. So what trend am I talking about? The Head Wrap aka the turban or the african headdress…

Back in the 80’s we wore them, who remembers Bananarama?

I first noticed it last October as worn by the stunningly beautiful Adwoa Aboah on the cover of Vogue. Not just any old Vogue but the first issue of Vogue edited by a man,  Edward Enninful. I subscribe to Vogue and what I did not realise at the time was that this issue sold out very quickly!

I recently spotted a few very chic looking women in london wearing them about town with pretty summer dresses, accessorised with trainers.

The Head Wrap and Wrap Life.

Recently in another magazine (I think it was August issue of Elle?)  I found a mention of  The Wrap Life

A lovely website that sells wraps and some pieces of lovely jewelry too (BTW this is not a sponsored post, I just love this site) There are video tutorials on how to tie the wraps in lots of varied styles it is fascinating.

Ok so I will not be wearing the extravagant high versions, but aren’t they adorable?

Luckily as a fabric addict I knew exactly where to lay my hands on a suitable piece of african fabric, in my Fabric wardrobe! I ripped it to size and got tying. It felt so cool not to have my hair around my face!

So ever since then I have been wearing head wraps around the house… I love them! Will you give it a go

My boy took these pics, I am wearing a tatty old DKNY dress and not much else! Bare feet and a head wrap for this boho Mama.

Great when your hair needs a wash, and you need to pop to lidl, so the question is will I be brave enough? …do you dare me?

For a DIY Head Wrap,

Use a piece of fabric approx 20″ x 60″ for your head wrap and it should be fine whatever your head size is.

You look fabulous! I have often admired these head wrap/turban styles on other women, but have never contemplated them for myself. Hmmm, it might be something fun to try this summer…
