Boot Fairs Season Has Started & We Found Treasure

Boot Fairs eh? You either love them or you hate them (nobody mention marmite!) As a family we love them. A few years ago I used to write a weekly ‘look what we found’ post. I would show you before and afters of our restoration projects. Does you remember those? Last year I preferred to have a lay in on a Sunday. With coffee and chocolate biscuits? Yes please and thank you!

This year I am back at the boot fairs for treasure hunting. We have a new patio project, presently under construction, so I want to style it up with unique items that you can’t buy in the stores and if you could then we probably wouldn’t be able to afford them!

Plus I want to change up the kitchen from kitsch to calm. We recycle and upcycle when we can, we restore old and make new. That is our passion.

UK Boot fairs

An explanation of Boot Fairs for my US friends: Everyone puts their ‘yard sale’ stuff in their cars and takes it to a local field to sell from tabletops positioned outside their cars. So much fun, if you are imaginative you can stylishly furnish your house for a just few pounds!

We did exactly that and as you probably know, our home has been featured in many magazines.

The Sunday Morning Routine…

It’s hard, you have to get up early. I dont like getting up early even though I did it for many years as a British Airways Stewardess!

When I am up I enjoy it, I love the misty morning air, fresh coffee for the journey and the promise of bargains and treasure to be found.

All of the little things in the picture below is either handmade by us, found at a the local boot fairs or restored by Marc! Even the deer skull we found whilst out for a walk last year…

The Boot Fairs Season is from March-November

Boot fairs are weather dependant, unless you have an indoor venue, but undercover Boot fairs are not the same. I prefer the challenge of a muddy field and eating warm bacon sandwiches in the sunshine.

So would you like to see what we found last weekend?

First up is this beautiful handwoven basket. It cost £5 and is as good as new. I popped it under the shower and washed the dust off. Now I need a pretty plant to go in it as the one in it is of the faux variety!

Baskets are having a huge revival these days and they are far more expensive in the big stores like Habitat where I could not find one under £25

Then I found this tealight holder with beaded shade for £1. It is intended for the garden…I think it is very Morrocan in style?

Last but not least a bent bamboo magazine holder For 50p, currently residing in the conservatory. I am desperate to find the matching 3 legged plant holder. Very 1970’s dont you think. The 70’s are back with a bang for interiors this year.

We found a few more things, one is a future restoration project, so watch this space…

Oh I do love a good boot sale! I scour for good toys for the grandchildren! It’s amazing what you can find. You’ve found some great items first hit and I can’t wait to see the revamp of the patio. You know I’m going to pinch some ideas!
