Casual Weekend Wear, More Midlife Fashion Tips

Weekend wear is basically my live in style! I now have less need of formal wear, apart from the odd family occasion, or weekend city breaks with my nearest and dearest. Even then I wear casual trousers and jackets and add in lots of dresses for summer.

Our personal style evolves with our lives, for instance I no longer have to do the ‘school run’ (well sometimes I do because even the 16 year old needs a lift occasionally)

For me this meant a wardrobe overhaul and re examining the garments I actually wear and love on a daily basis. Then shopping for more of the same?

..this involves jeans, lots of jeans. I am a dog owner and a country dweller, jeans are good!

Weekend Wear is my Best Friend.

I like to keep it simple, to be comfortable and to feel great in the clothes I wear. Not too much to ask of my wardrobe is it? Of course for me this involves jeans, lots of jeans. Frayed jeans, cropped jeans, dark blue jeans and levis. What is wrong with jeans, I am a dog owner and a country dweller, jeans are good for me. Finding your ‘thing’ is key as life changes.

Have fun, experiment with colour and texture whilst in the changing room. Why not take in things you wouldn’t usually wear then ask a stranger for her honest opinion!

A Top Tip for Midlife Fashion:

My top tip is to buy clothes for your lifestyle today, dont live in the past and buy the clothes you used to wear. Did you use to work in an office and commute to work, but no longer do this? So go through your wardrobe and get rid of any suits, jackets or formal blouses that you will probably not wear again.

Have fun, experiment with colour and texture whilst in the changing room. Why not take in things you wouldn’t usually wear then ask a stranger for her honest opinion!

Buy clothes that make you happy today, in the here and now, this doesn’t mean you won’t be wearing a pretty blouse ever again, I wear lace blouses with my jeans all the time! It just means you are evolving as is your life, change is good embrace it. After All the alternative would be so much worse…

Weekend Wear in my Wardrobe

I digress, so back to weekend wear. My wardrobe is now full of clothes that suit my lifestyle, trousers and smart knits, for weekends away. Jeans, shirts and T-shirts for everyday and pretty blouses and dresses for summer in the city as well as in Dorset!

Shoes:

Shoes are a different matter…and please dont mention my shoe collection to my other half! Right now they have a room of their own!.

Shoes, they come and they go, apart from one very special pair of Versace high heels, they will stay with me forever.

High Five!

I have shoes for every occasion and never keep them for best, wearing them when and wherever I can. Luckily heels with jeans is a big trend right now, so even my heels get lots of weekend wear especially for Sunday lunches. My shoes come and go, I dont hoard them, apart from one very special pair of Versace high heels, and they will stay with me forever.

Spring is the perfect time to re evaluate the contents of your wardrobe and to make sure it fits perfectly with your life, believe me it feels really good to have a sort out!

Those red tassle boots are amazing! I admire your attitude – not saving your shoes for best – I do that only to have neat shoes that have gone out of style! Your little dog is adorable and that walk – I can almost feel the fresh air! I enjoyed this post, thanks! xx

Lovely post. I still have clothes in my wardrobe from my corporate days. However to be honest I still occasionally wear them – especially to important meetings. Blazers come in handy to dress up an otherwise casual outfit. I do agree though you should buy what works for your every day world.

I love what you said about the “sort out”. I think even from year to year our style can change ever so slightly and that may mean something leaves our wardrobe as well. Love the outfit, by the way 🙂

      Thank you and hello Penny!

Dress appropriately for your age….that always struck me as a funny commandment. Who exactly is the final judge in what is appropriate attire for each stage of life, hmmm? And are you supposed to dress for your chronological age as opposed to the age you feel? My mirror says mid fifties but I don’t feel mid fifties. Silly rules! I’m going to dress in what makes me feel good and what looks good on me! I’ve always been thin with a boyish figure and was never able to shop in the Womens department. I’ve always had to shop in Juniors. At 58, I still have to shop in Juniors. My only criteria are 1) do I like it? 2) does it fit well? 3) do I look good in it? 4) is it comfortable? And last but not least 5) does it make me look like mutton trying o dress like lamb? If it makes me look like I’m trying to look like I’m twenty again then it’s a no. I’ll try on just about anything. Often I’ll get a good laugh out of what the mirror shows me but every now and again I’m pleasantly surprised and find a new style/item that fits my criteria!

I so agree with you! thats is why I always say dress for yourself and make yourself happy!

I have some clothes in my closet that I’ve bought that still have the price tag on them. Mostly casual dresses that I want to wear, but don’t because of my lifestyle. I quit buying them. I’m a weekend wear girl. Love those shoe-boots. I have a similar pair but not Versace (sigh) and mine are black.

I love the fact that you have a shoe room Ashley, I think that is only right and proper! It can be a minefield dressing for your age, I sometimes feel like I still chose the kind of clothes I wore as a student. The Zara kimono/cardi is an absolute winner. Hx

      Hello Helen,
