Midlife Fashion Let’s chat about Florals and Personal Style…

Fashion is a fickle friend, especially this midlife fashion. Midlife and coming to terms with all that comes with it is hard enough, without having to worry about what you are going to wear, right?

No one person is a fashion expert ‘it takes a village’ as they say. Never forget fashion is a big money making business too…

I was freezing and it shows…!

On Lazy Daisy Jones you will not find me preaching to you about what ‘we’ will or will not be wearing this year. Yes I do have opinions and yes I did work in fashion retail for many years, but I will never tell you what to wear.

In fact I actually dislike the use of the word ‘we’ it is a tone of voice that comes across as a cosy little club that the word ‘you’ is excluded from.

On LDJ it is all about you and I and I like it that way.

…wearing all the flower power, old, loved and well worn!

On Midlife Fashion.

There are no rules, dress to make yourself feel pretty, confident and happy. Please yourself and you will probably find that you have picked up on a trend by metamorphosis. A trend or a colour, will be unavoidable, it will be on your social media and in your local high street shops and thats ok too!

Trinny and Susannah got it right all those years ago when they suggested to you ‘what not to wear’ They didn’t tell you what you should be wearing they were all about dressing for your lifestyle and your body shape.

Of course I do have a few fashion ‘tips and tricks’ … who doesn’t?

Midlife fashion My top tips :

  • When buying from a cheaper brand always go up a size. That brand is able to sell to you cheaply because they are saving money on fabric by having tiny seams and very often making to the smaller end of the size scale.

  • Along similar lines; ignore sizing, take 2 or three sizes into the changing room and buy the one that fits you best. It doesn’t mean that you are the size thats written on the label. It just means that particular garment is a good fit for you. This in turn means that you will be comfortable wearing it and get a good cost per wear out of it.

…do you remember the summer?

Never, ever be afraid to try something new.

This is a biggie for me. If you refuse to try something new, for example a new length or a different shape, then you will never know. You will never know that it might actually look amazing on you!

Change is hard I know that, and not wanting to look ‘too young’ I get that one too. However a happy woman is a beautiful woman. Be brave and try that new length skirt, or that frilly sleeve. If you decide it’s not for you then at least you know because you tried it and not because you wrote it off as a younger trend.

Florals for you in spring summer 2018?

Let’s talk about flowers and wearing them, florals are everywhere again….I picked a few long sleeved dresses all from H&M as an example of florals to share with you. Sleeves are important for me, they turn any dress into a very wearable outfit, no matter the weather..

Will you be wearing floral prints in 2018?

I will and have done all my life, I love a bold and bright floral print. How do you think Liberty prints came to be so famous, floral prints never go anywhere in or out of fashion (in my humble opinion)

Plum and Cream shirt Dress from H & M

…and I would choose to wear it with any of these shoes, depending on the UK weather of course!

Some closing words on Midlife Fashion

So if florals are ‘on trend’ for 2018, then surely they have been ‘a go to’ since forever? (Note my liberal use of fashion cliched phrases) and I believe they always will.

Let’s call them a summer classic like navy trousers worn with a breton t-shirt. I know not every fashion trend that graces the pages of Vogue can be called a classic. But that woman wearing her favourite floral dress and soaking up the summer sunshine, will always be  classic beauty in my eyes. No matter her shape, size or age…

I will vote for personal style over fashion anytime and being happy thats what counts, life is short…

I’ll definitely be wearing floral prints this spring/summer. I always have at least a *couple* floral tops and/or dresses in my wardrobe. But I’m sort of a “less is more” floral person, generally. For me, on others, i love the look of a bold all-over floral print.

You wear florals so well Ashley. As you know by my blog I wear and love florals, a lot. That first blouse is so beautiful and romantic and I just love the long floral dress. It has a little vintage feel to it, too.
