The Fashion Trend I will NOT be Embracing in 2018

Trends come and go and when you get to a ‘certain age’ you see them come and go by again and again! I’d guess that approximately 20 years is the full cycle for a fashion trend.

When I was a teen in the 80’s it was the 60’s style we all wanted to imitate. Now the 90’s are back with a boom!

The Fashion Trend I will not be embracing in 2018

I see trends all the time in the blogging and instagram world that I frequent. The top ‘big girl blogs’ will adopt a look or a colour and it will be picked up, diluted and imitated by everyone else down the line, in some form or another, am I right?

What makes a fashion Trend ?

Is it when everyone is wearing the same thing? Or is it when the haute couture designers introduce a look that is filtered down to us first via Vogue and then eventually it will end up in Grazia for the masses to adopt ?

The Sock and Shoe Fashion Trend.

Now dont get me wrong I love to experiment with looks, colours and new fashion trends. Plus as I have said many times, your age should never ever restrict you from trying new things or even new trends.

I truly believe it is one of the things that will keep your spirit young at heart.

However I am drawing the line at this trend, it is not age that is preventing me from going with this one. It is vanity I actually think it looks ugly and slightly ridiculous in a theatrical way.  It is definitely not sexy either. My other half was laughing hysterically as I swished across the floor in my shoes and socks!

A Personal Opinion

Please remember this is just my personal opinion, I have no wish to offend anyone who is already  running with this fashion trend. It is just not for me.

It is definitely not sexy. My other half was laughing hysterically as I swished across the floor in my shoes and socks!

I did however pick up 5 pairs of these pretty socks in the sale. However, I can assure you this is the last time you will be seeing them. I will be tucking them firmly inside my boots from this day forward!

It simply begs the question does it not? What do you think of the socks with shoes trend will you be wearing it in summer 2018? Or am I alone in this one, love to know? Leave me a note in the comments girls!

Did you go with the Kitten heel trend last year? I did!

Ashley, I cam completely with you on this! I just cannot bring myself to wear the shoes and socks on display look. My husband insists that I used to wear frilly socks and sandals when I was a kid but (funnily enough) I don’t remember wearing anything of the kind. Is he right? Did I erase it all from my mind? HE he he… I guess I’ll never know!!

Oh my did you know your husband when you were a kid? How cool is that?
I think the whole look is rather sill for anyone over 15 ?? Agreed

I am 2 minds on the trend.
I think it suits certain people. You have to be slim for sure.

I am liking the show off of a patterned sock with jeans slightly turned up and trainers.

I have always wanted to try with my clogs but I am not sure I shall ever be brave enough

    • 17th February 2018 / 12:17

I like it with trainers but its this thing with shoes that I just dont get!
Be brave and see what happens!

LOL!! I know. Not for me. BUT I have actually worn black socks with my trainers lately and some cropped jeans and it looks OK (not too bad). I don’t think coloured socks and shoes work for me – but then I remember the 80’s! xx

    • 10th February 2018 / 19:57

Ha I remember the 80’s only too well? But surely you are far too young Jess?
Go you on the socks and trainers i do like that look!
      Just not socks and shoes!

I love these socks they look so cute Ashley!! I might be tempted to try with some of my colourful Converse! Xxx

You’re secretly embracing this trend, aren’t you? After all, you’re rocking the sock + sandal combo! I love watching trends come and go, it’s so interesting to see the teenagers adopting the trends we embraced many years before! xx

    • 9th February 2018 / 09:49

Haha you know me too well!
I wear them every day with my slippers!
      xxxx

Ha…. I’m so with you on the socks and shoes. I love seeing the colour combinations of fab shoes and mad socks but no way would I wear it! X

    • 9th February 2018 / 09:50

I love it on the young because it is fun and colourful and makes me smile!

Hiya! I actually think, done well, this look can really work. But it’s defo a look for the minority not the majority of us! I do have a love for cool socks and turn up my jeans to sshow them off when I wear Dr Martens. But I think that’s an entirely different approach, I would wear socks with what I call “dress shoes” xx

    • 9th February 2018 / 08:31

      I meant wouldn’t not would 🤣🤣🤣

      • 9th February 2018 / 08:42

Hi Sue I knew what you meant as I love your style!
        xx

  8. 8th February 2018 / 14:35

I think socks with sneakers is ok, but I definitely won’t be wearing them with heels!

    • 9th February 2018 / 08:41

Haa haa me neither amy not quite my idea of style (unless you are a super model eh?)

  9. 8th February 2018 / 13:27

Ashley, you are so funny! I love the socks and heels or sandals trend, but not necessarily the types of socks you have shown here. I am more of lace or fishnet or pretty velvet sock kind of girl if I am going to draw that much attention to my socks! While the socks you have are super cute, I agree they should stay tucked inside your boots or sneakers! Great post!

    • 9th February 2018 / 08:40

Hi Shelbee so glad you realised this was ‘tongue in cheek’ and not a serious post at all!
Yes I too have fishnet socks but they still stay under my jeans.!!

I actually like it and wore it last summer! And I adore kitten heels! I also think you made some cool photos!

    • 7th February 2018 / 14:03

      Hi Nancy
Good for you fashion should be fun right?
      xx

Definitely not for me either! Tried a photo shoot doing this a couple of years back and all have been deleted!

At 58, I get the biggest giggle out of the younger generation discovering/creating a “new” trend! Minis, maxis, midis, crops, platforms, kittens, hip hugger, high waisted, bell bottoms, skinny legs, capris, espadrilles, sheaths, tube tops….lol! But I think Cindy Lauper is the only woman I’ve ever seen pull off this new/old trend without looking utterly ridiculous (apologies to those who like it). I think part of my distaste for this look is that I see it as a Lolita look…..a grown woman adopting a little girl item of dress with adult apperal. Man repeller indeed!

    • 3rd February 2018 / 20:07

      I so agree with you!
High five to Cindy Lauper too!
However I truly think anyone over 15 should not be seen in public wearing this trend ?!
      bestest…

OMG Ashley I actually thought you’d used a really cool picture from a fashion website – it took me a while to realise that it was YOUR feet and YOUR socks and shoes!! To be honest I think in THEORY it’s awful, but when you have lovely slim ankles and calves I think colourful shoes and socks (and high heel sandals and socks!) look quirky and cool… I am not, and never have been, blessed with the sort of ankles that could pull this look off. It’s already an “awkward” look so to draw attention to my not-best feature is not something I am going to do, but OH how I envy those who have the sort of ankles that make it work!

    It’s a classic man repeller look… amirite?!!!! 😉

Enjoy the rest of your holiday, safe journey home x

    • 3rd February 2018 / 15:53

      Hello Catherine !

Thanks yes ‘man repeller’ is the phrase I was looking for!

However slim ones ankles may or may not be,? I still think this look is more quirky than cool?

      hopefully see you soon?
      take care

  14. 3rd February 2018 / 08:40

Haha! Actually I think that these look rather fetching on you Ashley 😉…it’s a trend I defo won’t be adopting tho as I never wear socks 🙀,,,,no not even under any of my copious collection of boots…a spray of anti-p and a spot of talc in my boots is perfect for me. Wierd or what? 😼😘😘😘

    • 3rd February 2018 / 15:55

      Hi Sarah

Haha indeed?! you need to see the top half too. How we laughed at this ‘look’
I am intrigued by your boot wearing habits I may just give that one a go myself soon!

      bestest wishes

  15. 3rd February 2018 / 07:50

Oh I remember it, and I did it! But just like puffball skirts and puffs jackets, it looked odd in the eighties and it still looks odd now. I do love watching the kids ‘discovering’ these things though 🙂

    • 3rd February 2018 / 15:57

Hi Helen, yes definitely one for the kids!
I agree, Its so funny when they announce a new fashion and then we pull out a pic from 25 years ago of us wearing it ‘way back when’
      bestest wishes
      Ashley xx
