I am ‘designing’ aka planning a dressing room

Perhaps ‘designing’ is the wrong word. Probably more like ‘planning’ a dressing room. My clothes, shoes, coats, jackets and bags have outgrown the wardrobe storage in the bedroom.

Just look at these handbags, at present they are perched haphazardly on this shelf, and that is just a fraction of them!

Decluttering

Every season I do have a clear out and send bags and shoes to the charity shop. Every 3 years or so, I have a super huge (probably not a grammatically correct description?) declutter day.It really does take a whole day and I dont even stop for lunch!

I think it takes a few years for a silhouette to either fall out of fashion or for me to go off it and never want to wear it gain. Skinny jeans and ‘Jeggings’ being a case in point! Never again, hence the big declutter every 3 years or so.

Dressing Room Plans

My Mum said to me “do you really need a dressing room?” I thought thank goodness she can’t see the assorted piles of clothes in the spare room. Yes Mum I do, or you will have nowhere to sleep when you fly over!

This is my Dream Room:

I think this is a man’s dressing area but I love it because it’s very Ralph Lauren, very ‘Safari‘ style.

Deciding what I want from a Dressing Room

This is the hard bit, perhaps I should start with what I dont want that may be easier.

I don’t want:

  • Built in cupboards (we have those in the bedroom)
  • A monochrome room.
  • Any clutter.
  • A Barbie playroom style (you know all glitter and glitz)
  • To have to search for something I want to wear.

See now it’s easier, because the opposite of what I don’t want is what I want!

Industrial Boutique

This is a detail of the shelves in my office, a style I would like to replicate in the dressing room. Therefore, the style I’m aiming for is ‘Industrial Boutique’...I made that one up but I’m sticking with it!

Interior Greenery in our home, it's a Jungle!

I do want.

  • Open plan storage and hanging.
  • A little colour.
  • Space and light.
  • Contemporary style mixed with vintage.
  • To be able to see what I have, or easily find what I want.
  • Industrial Boutique Style

Curtains on order from Anthropologie a sale buy:

These curtains are very beautiful, very marrakesh in style and luckily reduced…

Yes it’s all about Pinterest for design ideas right now? Here is the board I am using for my plans…

Firstly, I must clear and declutter what has been dumped in the room, believe me that is a very big job, but dont tell my Mum OK?

This is what I love about us! You = Industrial Me = Barbie! Chalk and cheese yet it works! That’s not to say I don’t like your ideas. Imagine a Ralph Lauren designed wardrobe space!
