International Dog day a Shih Tzu Story

International dog day passed us by without celebration last weekend. The pooch slept through most of that Saturday whilst we gardened the day away. So today I am making amends for this oversight.

International Dog day a Shih Tzu Story

I am going to tell you a story…

Once upon a time, in the pretty county of Dorset  lived a family of three who adored cats. At one point they had three. The big black one died of old age, and the other two younger ones were run over in quick succession. A sad state of affairs.

The family loved their pets and felt bereft at the loss of their cats. They decided to adopt an older cat from a rescue centre. The plan was that perhaps an older cat would be less likely to stray onto the roads and this would reduce the risk of nasty accidents.

The plan worked and the family still have that cat, 9 years later.

The Shih Tzu

The problem was that because she was an older cat, she slept a lot and wasn’t as much fun to play with as a perhaps a kitten or even a puppy would be.

Quite by chance the Mum of that family spotted a picture of a Shih Tzu puppy and instantly fell in love with Shih tzu’s declaring that she ‘needed a puppy exactly like the one in the picture, or her life would never be the same again’

A few months later her wish came true and a little baby boy Shih tzu puppy came to live with them.

The saying ‘be careful what you wish for’ was never more appropriate, for indeed their life was never the same again…in the best possible way!

For you see the little Shih Tzu never leaves their side. He spends vacations in the English ‘sun’ with them…

By the way, the old lady cat and the Shih Tzu became the best of friends, the cat is the boss of course.

International Dog Day

Actually it was the day after International dog day that we took him to the pub to celebrate. Afterall I think belated celebrations can be just as much fun don’t you? Luckily no one mentioned we were a day late, so he was as happy as a Shih Tzu could possibly be aka in blissful ignorance. (hmmmm might try that ‘blissful ignorance’ thing on my next birthday)

If you like cats you can read this post from 2013 all about that rescue cat…
