Super Size Crochet by Sarah Shrimpton.
I have been patiently waiting for this book to be published for months, and am also honoured to be part of a blog hop book tour, more details at the end of this post.
Super Size Crochet by Sarah Shrimpton.
First let me admit to being a huge fan of chunky yarn, broomstick handle sized wooden hooks and Annaboos House!
The first thing I do when I receive a new book to review, is put the kettle on and have a quick flick through, do you do that too?
First impressions count for me, even with books. This one has super photography, with full page images of all 20 bright and fresh projects to be found inside.
What is Super Size Crochet about?
I’ll let Sarah answer that with a quote from the intro to her book…
‘…it’s about creating show-stopping pieces which use chunky, mega chunky and truly mammoth yarns and changing the way you think about crochet forever.’
Sarah also includes some superb tips for holding and using the yarn. So dig out your saucepans girls! Who knew they make perfect mammoth yarn holders?
The 20 projects:
These gorgeous projects range from blankets to place mats and everything in between. I want to make them all!
My Project: The Pet Bed
For my first make I chose the pet bed. I wanted to make it for the cat as she doesn’t have a bed of her own, preferring to sleep on anything soft, including the ironing pile. However after a good sniff around it she settled back on the sofa. The dog, our cheeky little shih-tzu adores it and has now claimed it for his own.
I added an extra layer, by just repeating the pattern for the base over again and popping it inside the basket.
You can see how much he loves it!
…and the crochet hook…!
I can assure no harm was done to this crochet hook during filming.
The Yarn and my Hook:
Super size crochet fluffy, giant yarn from Woolly Mahoosive. Andrea is an online retailer of this yarn and is also super friendly and very helpful,so dont hesitate to ask her any questions regarding the use of this yarn.
My hook is a lovely hook, from loopy Mango and cost about £20 a couple of years ago. I bought mine at the knit and stitch show at Alexandra Palace, but it is available online too.
The Author.
I am proud to be able to call Sarah a friend (IRL) in real life.
She is a marvellous lady clever, ultra organised, funny and gorgeous too. (are you thinking she may be a superwoman?) I take my hat off to her, as she has a young family to look after, holds down a busy job and writes fab patterns that you can turn into beautiful projects.
Find Sarah in her Etsy shop here for more cute and colourful crochet goodness.
You can also read more about Sarah’s crochet world in this post when I interviewed her last January, for my Back story feature.
The Book.
Available from f and W media International and available to pre order from Amazon (I just checked ) it will be released on May 26th. If you can’t wait that long. I have one to give away so let me know if you would like it via the comments below?
