CitizenM Hotels have you heard of them? I hadn’t until a couple of weeks ago. Now however, I will choose these Hotels first above any others. I have visited one and stayed in another and I can’t wait to try the next one on my list… NYC here I come!
…as a stewardess for British Airways travel became a way of life.
The ethos behind CitizenM is one I admire. It is a hotel for the modern mobile traveller. I have travelled the world many times over. I was a stewardess for British Airways and for a few years, travel became a way of life. I could tell the standard of a hotel the minute I stepped into the Lobby.
There are two things I want from a hotel;
There are two things I want from a hotel; a restful night’s sleep and a refreshing shower. CitizenM gave me both.
CitizenM Tower Hill Hotel
Let me start at the beginning with David Hockney, I love him and have done since I was an 18 year old art student. I had booked tickets for myself and my 15 year old son, also an art lover, to visit the David Hockney exhibition at Tate Britain. We decided to stay the night and make the most of the london sights. I started to research hotels, serendipity stepped in when I was invited to stay at and review a CitizenM hotel. We booked the tower hill Hotel (there are also citizenM hotels at Bankside and Shoreditch) I eagerly looked forward to our stay.
The lobby:
For me the lobby of a hotel is its beating heart, guests coming and going, the atmosphere, the smells, the hustle and bustle, I believe that first impressions count for everything.
The lobby of the Tower Hill hotel is stunning. An interior that is cleverly designed to be welcoming. A busy, yet relaxing area with a modern contemporary vibe.
No reception, just beautifully zoned areas to sit and chat or meet your friends and fellow guests. A coffee bar, a bar and a cafe area, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. You check yourself in (there is always help if you need it) via the computers in the lobby.
The Bedroom
The ethos of citizenM is basic luxury, they have done away with the trouser press, the chocs on the pillow, in a word everything you dont need and dont want to pay for. What they do have is a beautiful, XL comfy bed with superb quality linen and pillows. A gorgeous shower, and the view, oh my goodness have I mentioned the view?
There is water in the fridge that is free and the whole room is such fun, you control, the temperature, the lights, the TV and even the ambiance with an Ipad that sits beside the bed. The teen was in his element and thought it was a great idea to change the lights to all colours of the rainbow whilst I was having a shower.
There is not a kettle in the room, but I for one did not miss it. I am always dubious about the freshness of teas and coffees provided and truly who wants to drink water from a kettle that has been filled from the bathroom tap. I enjoyed instead, large cups of real coffee, fresh lattes from the coffee bar that we took up to the room.
The Guests only Bar with a view…
This hotel has a guests only bar on the seventh floor, it has incredible 360° views of london, the tower of london lit up at night is a sight not to be missed…
We had a wonderful stay and I can’t wait to go back. I really would recommend staying here if you ever get a chance. the prices are reasonable for a central london hotel, breakfast is included and there was a lot to choose from.
I made a little video of our stay…look out for the moving art!
