A cute Easter gift without Chocolate! A simple Diy idea for you

A very simple Easter gift idea. A free crochet pattern, for you to hook up in no time at all. This one took me less than half an hour from start to finish.

I think it would make a super gift for whoever will be cooking your Easter Sunday roast…

I have quite a few of these little spider plants potted up all over the house. The little baby offshoots grow very fast, I cannot throw them away and always grow them on. So now all my friends and family are receiving them as gifts.

Made from clean baked beans, or chopped tomato tins, that would be thrown away and recycled. Plus they are an excellent method of using up scrap yarn. They cost nothing and are always received with a smile. In 2015 I made a similar version here to hang on my pegboards!

To make this Easter gift you will need:

  • A clean tin can. I used a baked beans tin.
  • Scraps of yarn, I used some old ‘boodles’ t-shirt yarn.
  • Scissors, tapestry needle.
  • A suitable size hook for your yarn, I used a size 8mm

The Pattern:

UK terms: The only stitches used are a double crochet (dc) and a slip stitch (ss)

US terms: The only stitches used are a single crochet (sc) and a slip stitch (ss)

Pattern Notes

This pattern will differ depending on yarn and hook size. I have written this based on you using a chunky t-shirt yarn and an 8mm hook.

  1. Either start with crocheting 6dc into a ring. Or, as I do ch3 and crochet 6dc into 2nd ch from hook, ss to join ch1 (does not count as a stitch in this and every other row)
  2. 2 dc into each stitch around, ss to join ch1 (12 sts)
  3. 2 dc into first stitch, 1dc into next stitch, repeat around, ss to join, ch1. (18 sts)
  4. 1dc into the front loop only around, join with a ss, ch1 (18 sts)
  5. 1dc into each stitch around, join with a ss, ch1.
  6. repeat round 5 until tin is covered…
  7. Colour changes are optional.

Top Tip: place empty tin inside, as your work progress to see how many rows your tin will need.

To make up

Fasten off, but be sure to leave a long tail, which you can thread up and sew as a decorative stitch around the tin, using the rows as a guide. I used a simple running stitch…
