An Exciting Day with the Queen of Colouring
Adult colouring, I have to admit to allowing this trend to pass me by. I thought I had crochet to keep me calm and mindful, when stress creeps into my day. Plus I thought I did not have time for another craft into my life. How wrong can you be?
As a creative person, I find my mind can often be overwhelmed with ideas and input, therefore occasionally my busy brain simply needs a rest, to clear the decks, so to speak.
I will quote from Staedtler web site worth a visit for inspo and ideas
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”Put your smartphone away – don’t even look at the screen. With a pencil in your hand you can enter a whole new world! Colouring has a meditative effect, because it gives you a break from the stresses and strains of everyday life”[/perfectpullquote]
So, so true, I have tried it at last, therefore I can speak from experience! Let’s start at the beginning?…
At the start of December, I was invited to London to participate in an evening of artistic fun, sponsored by Staedtler and to meet Johanna Basford, who is the undeniable, iconic, queen of colouring. A week before this event she had received an OBE from prince William! 9 who admitted that his wife is also an adult colouring fan)
The venue was held at the Hospital Club in Convent garden, I loved the decor… look at those chairs!
The table was set for fun, so after snacks and a glass of something chilled, we set to work. The theme was “my creative escape” very apt.
We had a superb selection of pens and pencils to use, courtesy od Staedtler, and Johanna explained a few helpful techniques. Do you know? it really doesn’t matter if you colour outside the lines!
I chose my weapons, ‘ergo soft crayons’ if you must know! Then amidst the chatter and the creativity that was going on all around me, I glanced up to find a couple of hours had passed in a flash.
Johanna’s latest book is Christmas themed and full of detailed, pretty patterns and pictures to fill with colour. Can you guess what I amused myself with on the train home that night?
Wishing you all a superb Christmas, I will be using some of my down time for colouring in this year, plus a little bit of crochet too!
