Interiors Lifestyle Our home

How I updated my teenagers room with a new blind.

Recently we were lucky to have our entire home photographed by a professional photographer for a magazine. The whole that is, apart from my teenagers room and our en-suite bathroom.

Why were these two rooms not included? Good question, and one that is very easy to answer. The en-suite was not included because it is the only room in the house that we have not redecorated. The teens room requires a longer explanation…

My Teenagers Room

I blog, therefore I share large parts of my life with you, and the rest of the world. However, some parts of our life I prefer to keep private. My son I do not blog about, in actual fact as he has grown up this has also been at his own request.

Another very simple reason his room was out of bounds for the photo shoot, is that as a typical teenage boy his room is a helluva mess!

He ‘graciously’ gave me permission to show you some pics of a little corner of his room containing his new blackout blind…

The old blind blackout blind.

So this is how his window looked a few days ago…

We decided that curtains are too fussy for a teenage boys room, they take up wall space, usually remain closed and on discussing this with him, we agreed a blackout blind was the way forward clean, minimal, and functional ie. perfect for his room.

‘Order Blinds’ is a company that I had not heard of before, but I wish I had! we bought his last blind from our local diy store for approx £30 it was not made to measure had plastic fittings and a plastic pull that frequently broke and had to be fixed every time you pulled it up. 1 year on it was only fit for the bin.

Order Blinds
“…Order Blinds Online is a family owned and run business based in Nottinghamshire with over 11 years experience selling blinds online. They have applied that experience to offer the best possible range of blinds you can order from the comfort of your home…”

They have a superb range of blinds, colours and fabrics. All you have to do is give them some very simple measurements, choose your style, fabric and colour. Then wait for the postie to deliver, which he did very quickly

We choose a dark grey colour called ‘zinc’ for our thermal blackout roller blind again perfect for his room, as he has 3 white walls and one black.

It was so simple to put up…we like!

A before and after pic…

On being asked how he likes his new blind he said ‘yeah Mum it’s good so what’s for tea?’ believe me thats high praise indeed from a teenager!

I think it is a little bit rock n’roll…dont you?
