I have long been a fan of ‘Made Peachy’ aka Laura Strutt. So this book went on my wish list at the end of January, with several other new crochet books the post is here if you are interested
It has taken me awhile to get around to actually buying it, but I am so glad I finally did.
I have also said in the past, that I am not a shawl person, wrong! I made ‘the late summer shawl’ from Inside crochet magazine; issue 69 and I love it. I wrap it around me when watching tv, I wrap it around me in bed when I am crocheting and having a lie in on a Sunday morning. Therefore I have come to the conclusion that yes, I am a shawl and a wrap kinda girl after all!
Modern crocheted shawls and wraps: Laura strutt
Back to the book by Laura Strutt. From my very first glance I knew that this is a book that will be well used, and referred to by me time and time again. The projects are mouth watering, the photographs are pretty, colourful and clear. The 35 patterns appear easy to follow and look well written. The book has a star system to highlight skill levels at a glance, and both beginners and experienced patterns are all included.
I tested the instructions by hooking up a few rows of one of the shawls. Silly me, now I am eager to finish what I started the ‘Shades of blue shawl’ Oops another work in progress has begun.
Chunky Yarn or not?
I have some chunky yarn to use up and decided it would be perfect for a wrap or shawl. Wraps are perfect for evenings in the garden when the sun goes down don’t you think?
Experimental stitches from two sizes of hooks, 8 mm and a 10 mm revealed some interesting textures…
Hook Size?
I am going with the size 10mm hook, it looks like this shawl will be a quick hook, I am already addicted.
My mum is visiting from her home in Florida at the beginning of May, it will be useful for her as she feels the cold, even when we think its warm. Our ‘warm’ is not the same ‘warm’ as Florida!
Hopefully it will be finished by then?
My advice is to get this book asap, unless you already own it. I love the shawl on the cover and also want to hook up the Mobius shawl.
FYI the Mobius shawl pattern is printed in ‘Crochet Now’ magazine, issue one.
