My Fridas flowers crochet project bag

I thought I would finish off March by posting about this lovely crochet project bag. It is one of the most enjoyable projects I have made for ages…

My Fridas Flowers Crochet Project Bag

Last year I attempted and failed to finish (or even keep up with) Jane Crowfoots ‘Lilypond’ Cal (crochet-along) I had bits of motifs all over the place and couldn’t keep my mind on it at all. Plus I kept running out of the correct colours.

2016 CAl Fridas Flowers Project

This year, the 2016 Cal is called ‘Fridas Flowers’ I adore anything to do with Frida Kahlo, her art, her style, and I love the colours of mexico with which I associate her. This year I am determined to join in from the start, to finish it and to be organised.
So I have all my yarn ready (although I am using Stylecraft dk lite, not the cotton) and I have even crocheted the project bag  from the cal that preceded the blanket to keep it all in!

The Details:

The Pattern:

The bag pattern has been cleverly designed by Kathryn from Crafternoontreats, who also teamed up with stylecraft. You can find the pattern here just scroll down past the blanket to find it:

The Yarn:

The pattern calls for Stylecraft chunky yarn. Now luckily I had a few balls left over from my “late summer shawl” crochet project from last year. So I used that and added in one other colour. It cleared out my draw of all the chunky odds and ends so was a brilliant stash buster.

Hook: size 5mm

The Lining:

Being a bit keen on sewing, I did not line the bag as instructed.

I completely lined the bag by taking measurements from the finished crochet squares, then making a complete bag in a heavy denim, in this way too I did not need to use any interlining.

I then sewed the lining into the bag by machine, using a stretch zig-zag stitch,as you would use for lingerie before constructing the handles.

You can just see a bit of it below…

The bag is now full of yarn for the ‘Fridas Flowers’ blanket and I cant wait to start. I have even joined the official facebook group!

Anyone else out there joining in? I am so excited…but then is it very sad to be excited by a CAL?
