Create Interiors Our home

My sewing room cupboard is upcycled into a shoe cupboard with lights!

It was a misty Sunday morning, the sun was slowly burning off the mist and I knew the day ahead was showing promise.Where were we? At a boot fair of course. Don’t you just love that feeling of excitement when you pull up at the car park? It was at least 2 or possibly three years ago when I first spotted my beloved sewing room cupboard or cabinet at our local BF. It was dirty and tatty, had damaged panes of glass and a broken leg. we snapped it up for a few pounds and dragged it home… I tried to find some pics of how it looked back then, but they are all on the other computer.

A sewing room cupboard transformation:

This is how it looked until recently…

I can explain my reason for this next transformation in one word ‘DECLUTTER’ I can no longer live with so much stuff. I know its very pretty and I am sure lots of you will say you prefer it this way?

But I feel the need to calm my crazy, colourful sewing room. I want to streamline it, empty it, to only have in my room the things I love or use a lot, things that are very useful.
So I emptied the cupboard and moved it to our soon to be redecorated bedroom (no carpet in there yet, perfect area for painting) Marc removed the doors and I chose some paint…

We popped down to Homebase and asked the nice lady to mix us up some Dulux ‘Steel symphony 2’ soft sheen paint with her very clever Mixlab machine. We also picked up some essential painting accessories brilliant value too.

Marc set to work…when it was completely painted. I decided it needed a little ‘extra’ so he wallpapered the back of the shelves with some vintage wallpaper I had been saving to use in the bedroom.

Finally Marc worked some extra magic and wired the cabinet for light!

You see I have long been a fan of displaying things that are useful and beautiful like shoes!

The sewing room cupboard is now a shoe cupboard!

and with the lights on!

The vintage lamp is an ‘engineers light’ Marc restored it and yes it was from a boot fair too!…

I cannot wait to get on with our bedroom decorating.

So what do you think of that make -over?
