Sewing for Christmas December a Fairy ‘godmother’ apron

Sewing for Christmas – add it to the long list
So much to be done at this time of the year. The days whiz by, and we all wish we had more hours to spare for the fun things like sewing and playing with the kids…
In September, those lovely girls from Elephant in my Handbag asked if I would like to join in with their Christmas celebrations. Of course I eagerly agreed! My task was to chose some seasonal fabric and make something for Christmas.

sewing For Christmas – fabric choices
So difficult to decide but these two above were my favourite, I chose the snow globe* fabric on the right. It is by Cotton and Steel and its called ‘Holiday 2015’ it is part of the Tinsel collection…

Sewing for Christmas Pattern Details
I chose to make this Apron, as I had made it previously for a play at work. I thoroughly enjoyed sewing it.
View E from Butterick B4087 a set of vintage style aprons. I added some ricrac and set to work…

I cut and snipped and pretty much followed the pattern exactly because it has well thought out instructions that are easy to follow..I hemmed the bottom of the Apron and sewed on the patch pockets as above…

A handy tip when it comes to sewing the bib and lining is to baste stitch the ruffles about 50 mm from the edge, then tuck them under so they do not get caught up in the lining when you sew the two pieces together…
Finally she was finished and I took her down to the kitchen for a test run…

All the while wishing I had a Fairy Godmother to help with all this cooking and clearing up. Suddenly….whooosh… amidst a sprinkle of snow flakes look who arrived fairy ‘helper’ Of course, I put him to work straight away well wouldn’t you?

Trouble is he disappeared at 4.30 mumbling something about an engine to mend….oh well you know what they say be careful what you wish for. So that’s the last man sew for 2015! I hoped you liked it. I think he deserves 3 cheers for being so game throughout the year and not just at Christmas don’t you?
PS thanks also to Elephant in my handbag for supplying the lovely fabric to go with this bit of fun….
