Sewing Lingerie in a day Plus a make to be proud of

Why Not Check out your Local Sewing Classes and Learn How to Sew Lingerie

I recently took advice from another blogger and I looked online to see what sewing adult education classes my local council had to offer. What a surprise. A wonderful selection, at reasonable prices and all within walking distance. This lead to me taking a six week course on basic pattern drafting last summer. Then last weekend I took a one day work shop on sewing lingerie and learnt how to sew a bra from a lingerie sewing book..

To say it was ‘worth every penny’ is a cliché and an understatement. All materials were included, there was lunch, coffee, cakes and did I mention doughnuts. We cut, snipped, sewed, unpicked, sewed again, chatted ( a lot ) ate cakes, laughed (a lot) and at the end of the day I had a pretty bra to take home.

Mary-Louise, our teacher is a friendly, fun and experienced lecturer with a wealth of expertise at her fingertips. Design Creations is her latest venture, the website will soon be selling quality Lingerie supplies and even Bra Kits!  (oh yes please!!) so keep an eye on it.
If you live in Dorset and have time to take some classes I would recommend you look her up? The first image above shows the lingerie that Mary-Louise has sewn and brought along to show us. There are a lot of lingerie sewing patterns online but I was too nervous to start on my own.

Sewing lingerie for a day.

Can you believe these are all the componenets that go into making just half a bra ?
Mary-Louise as part of her research ‘disected’ a bra to show us, fascinating.

The result I sewed a pretty Bra

Here is mine, must say I am very proud of it and it fits me like a glove, although we were only making sample sizes. It was easier than I thought to sew and I am now confident enough to try on my using a lingerie sewing pattern on my own. Afterall, it is so quick to cut out.

Mary- Louise also recommended a new lingerie sewing book to me. It is now on my Christmas List! Hint hint

I repeat if you have the time and/or the opportunity to take this class, I highly recomend that you do!

Bestest

Ps Mary-Louise if you ever get to read this, I had a super time and learnt an awful lot in a day that sped by far too quickly! thank you xx
