Sewing for Grandma…
Do you remember that for Mr July’s man sew I explained that I had changed my mind about my fabric choice for his shorts? Well, I decided to use the fabric intended for him and sew something for my Mum instead…
My darling Mum lives in Florida and is visiting us for a couple of weeks. She brings over so many gifts and stuff for us all, that she hardly has any room in her suitcase for her own clothes! She told me she had only brought over one pair of comfy lounging trousers. I decided to make her another pair…
The fabric in question was a thick jersey knit in a dark navy. I decided to alter the pattern from the
‘Ultimate trousers’ by Sew over it and make her some lounge wear.
I shortened the length, widened the legs, left out the darts, used the facing to make a narrow waistband casing and added some cotton stretch lace as a trim instead of a hem around the legs.
The result? a very happy Grandma, she was even happy to model them for me…. in her slippers!
Just look at her enjoying the evening sun…can you believe she is 73 ?
Both of them wearing their sewn by me ‘lounge wear’ !
Cheers!
I think my next family sewing challenge may be to sew something for my 13 year old. Hmmmm harder than it sounds believe me!
