Wearable summer crochet from a vintage pattern
I rarely see a summer crochet garment I want to wear. Crochet by its very nature is lacy and therefore transparent. Transparency at my age does not make for an easy wear, unless you want a layered look, which is too hot for summer. Winter is easy, layer upon layer is what we need and want to keep warm during the long UK chilly season.
Imagine my surprise whilst perusing my vintage crochet pattern collection, I found a couple of things that I would actually consider wearing…
The inspiration for this project started at a boot fair. Last year I bought all this yarn for only 5 pounds! It has been languishing in my yarn drawer taking up space ever since. I decided it was time to use it for a project, I thought a garment would make a nice change, I have never ever crocheted a garment, the poncho doesn’t count!
Time then to choose a pattern, easy you may think? but no it was not. Nothing in the ‘crochet patterns’ files in my local yarn shop took my eye. They were old fashioned or just too complicated. Back home I hauled out the unsorted box of vintage crochet patterns and began sorting…
I narrowed it down to these two, and then starting to worry I may not have enough yarn. I settled on this one. Try to imagine it in that blue, I may wear an orange vest underneath it.
You may know that I already have an ongoing crochet Wip (work in progress) see it here
Is it wrong to start another?
No I don’t think so, you see, the other is a crochet along published every two weeks. I can hook this up in between ….Yay!
What are you hooking up right now?
