From the catwalk to my sewing machine.sewing a trend and Simplicity 1278
Have you noticed the gingham trend for summer?
I am a gingham fan, especially blue gingham (a la Dorothy in Oz and not your old school uniform) You see that was the problem with gingham it has always been associated with school uniforms
Now Vogue and LFW have given it a new lease of life…. Us older ‘girls’ can wear it too. Hooray I say.
The trouble with trends from designers is of course they cost….
This adorable black and white dress and shoes from Dolce and Gabana is way out of most peoples price range. This dress is £1,200 pounds and its made from cotton poplin! Of course in real life, the ‘handle’ the details and construction would be a thing of beauty. But £1,200 gulp!!!
This is my favourite By Natasha Zinko, a snip at a mere £650 pounds and mostly sold out! Its called the pigtail dress,

Can you see the influence?
Yes, good old Dorothy and Toto!
…the original and best ever iconic gingham dress:
So lucky for all of us that can sew a straight seam, love gingham and have a massive collection of vintage patterns, we don’t need to save up! (as if?)
Lucky for me that I have a huge piece of ‘silk like’ vintage gingham fabric with superb drape. I have also found a perfect pattern for a spring blouse…
My first planned trendy gingham make is from this newly reproduced ‘vintage 1950s’ series Simplicity pattern.
My only problem now is to decide which view. Have you caught the gingham bug yet?
bestest
Ps the blouses in the top image are by Victoria Beckham and they cost £395 each. Hmmm might have one in each colour then? ooooh I hope they have it in yellow!
