Sewing

Sewing Style 2128 vintage blouse pattern.

24/02/2015

A couple of weeks ago I started to have a big fabric clear-out in my sewing room. I had decided if I did not like a particular fabric, it had to go. I succeeded in donating a large bag to the textiles dept. of my son’s school and gained space for more fabric: win win!
As usual, I am sure its the same for you too whilst de-stashing?  I found this delightful fabric that I had forgotten I owned.
I found it at a ‘house clearance’ last year and bought it because I knew it would come in useful one day…

I found the perfect pattern in my collection, view C caught my eye. I had wanted a top like that since forever I love 3/4 sleeves so flattering, and bows too, I was in love.
I even managed to find matching thread and a zip amongst my stash. It was a ‘sign’ the de-stashing came to an abrupt halt…let the sewing commence!
Do you ever get that ‘I have to sew it now’ feeling?  well I do, frequently.

The fabric was a cotton and linen mix in a loose weave, as you can guess it frayed badly, undeterred I over-locked every edge, apart from the sleeves as I wanted maximum movement for setting in. Due to the fraying I pinned and tacked those sleeves to within an inch of their lives, they were not going to get away from me. Finally I over-locked the armhole seams and was very satisfied with the result:

Did I mention there are bows? yes two of them, I deliberately frayed the ends for a nice finish. They are so cute. I love bows.

I wore it the other day, with one of the simple ‘A line skirts I made last year from a small piece of vintage fabric… I only had my phone to hand for photos! I must ask the other half to take some more the next time I wear it…

This whole ‘ensemble’ matches the décor of my hall very nicely, dont ya think?

Have you found anything interesting whilst tidying lately?
