A lazy sewing tip
Mrs Yeo my textiles teacher from school once told me…
“…when you lean to sew correctly, then you may skip steps but you have to know the steps you are skipping in order to sew correctly…”
I love that and I loved her too, Mrs Yeo where are you now? I am sorry if I talked to much in your class, you were my favourite teacher.
This tip is very handy if somewhat lazy, Mrs Yeo may have frowned upon it.
This is what I do…
After you have placed and cut out your pattern, you will need to transfer the markings to your fabric, sometimes this is labour intensive…tailor tacks anyone? (or ‘basting’ in America)
I am mainly talking darts here….so before placing your pattern on the fabric…
punch a hole where the dots for the darts are and then stick those hole reinforcement ‘thingys’ on both sides of the pattern to stop it tearing. Pin to fabric as normal and cut out.
like this…
….then simply mark with chalk or an air dry marker through the holes and proceed as usual.
I told you it was simple?
