My top 5 sewing essentials.
If I had to choose 5 sewing essentials that I could not be without these are the five I would choose:
Do you sew? Do you have any of these items?
If not I highly recommend that you give them a try here’s why…….
Starting with the obvious…
But its not the pins!
It is the magnetic pin dish I could not live without.
It made me laugh so much on The Great British Sewing Bee S2 when someone dropped their pins and Claudia helpfully began picking them up one by one and placed them back on the magnetic dish….because all you have to do is hover the pin dish over the floor and the pins fly back on it!
I lose these dishes all over the place at work and home, I have ended up with about three of them.

Fiskars quick clips, I have had mine for some years.
I was given them as a gift, by a like minded friend who loved them too.
I use them as seam rippers, but they are also very useful for snipping ends, I used to hang a pair around my neck when sewing. the design has changed but the usefulness has not!
3
My folding wooden ruler.
I use this for hems.
It is so handy to open it out and measure from floor to hemline when pinning up a hem.
I do have a large vintage ruler, but this one is very portable.
Most sewing craft/shops stock them.

The Clover chaco liner Pen is sooooo useful when marking pattern marks to fabric and it brushes off easily, it has a little wheel at the end where the chalk comes out but it writes like a pen it is also good for curves. This is white, but you can get blue and yellow too.
Number 5 is the oddest but most useful….I bought them new as a pair from ebay and gave a pair to a a toy making pal she loves them too!
I use them for turning tiny things inside out like loops or belts etc.
I think they are a medical ‘thingy’ but don’t know their name, do you?
A word on Pins always use glass headed ones, they don’t melt under the iron!!
Do you have an essential item you could not be without?
do let me know
