The mystery of sewing machine feet. Part 1
Always a puzzle, which for what and how to use?
Questions questions questions…
When I first began sewing (over 30 years ago!)
I played it safe and stuck with one foot for everything.
Now I can recognise and even name a few feet by myself, without peeking at the book.
Maybe I can help?
These are the ones apart from the general sewing foot, that I use the most.
I use them the most because they are the most useful!
Especially this one…
I always always use this to sew any size of sewn button hole, practise makes perfect and experimenting on scraps of various fabrics helps.
I can also recommend this book.
although it deals with vintage feet, not much has changed over the years….
This is my modern day ‘darning’ foot next to a vintage one in a picture in the book.
Almost the same but years apart.
The book lists many feet and their uses, and includes some basic, simple instructions….
I am sure I found this on amazon, as with most of my sewing books!
The two feet I could not live without and I would recommend you use and practise with, are the invisible zipper foot and the button hole foot.
what do you use the most?
Give some new feet an outing on your machine, you will never look back!
