A Red Dress from my Childhood is now 50 years old
A red dress is such an iconic piece of a woman and girls wardrobe, we all have one we remember fondly. I have been searching the attic and I came across this old M & s red dress. I even managed to find a pic of me wearing it around C1972.
A red dress from M&S Early 1970’s
I wore this dress when I was 9, oh dear I have just realised… that makes it 50 (at time of editing in 2023) years old “wow Mum that’s really old” said my 12 year old, bless him!
At the time I was not fond of this dress, it was always very hot and prickly to wear. In the pic below we were in Herne bay, by the beach. I remember we were going to see Jill the lady in the pic in a musical it was her dress rehearsal, she was a dancer. perhaps she wanted me to feel at home and dressed us alike.
The pic is of me wearing it whilst on a visit to a friends in Herne Bay. That was “Auntie’ Jill and Fiona her daughter. Jill was very glamorous, she was a dancer.
I think this dress would not look out of place in Orla Kiely’s ss14 collection….

Today I would wear these shoes with this Red dress and cream tights, perhaps I wore similar back in the day? My new ‘Orla Kiely’ shoes that I have had for weeks and still have not worn due to weather conditions, would still go nicely with this dress.
Such a shame its too small now, because with hindsight I adore this little outfit. Red and cream are very sweet together. Perhaps I will size it up and copy the pattern to make an adult size dress for summer. I simply love the collar and the trims.
Oh little red dress you have brought back such sweet memories and how cute was I?
