I recently found some childhood photos of myself in the late 60’s.
They sparked off a nostalgic mood, reminding me of a box in the attic that had been untouched for almost 10 years.
Up the ladder I climbed……
….look what I found.
I will freely admit to shedding a tear or three over these old treasures, memories came flooding in….was it really over 40 years ago? life is moving very fast these days….
First my poncho.
Very special for two reasons;
The first reason is because my mother made it for me.
The second?
This was a small miracle, my mother did not sew or knit and was not crafty or artistic in anyway at all, never ever!
I was five or six, it was around 1968.
I watched fascinated, as this miraculous process took place over a few weeks. I loved the blue and the white, she showed me how to hook a ‘treble’
I suppose the rest is history…I was hooked. (ha!)
There were even pom-poms…oh yes even in the 60’s we had pom-poms!… one big blue one and one big white one,
They fell off and I used to chew the ends of the ties and get told off for doing so.
It is pure wool and has felted as it was washed over the years….
I have been admiring the scalloped edging stitch….
Tucked up with this beauty were other precious items, some old toys, all from the same era,
and my Apron not just any apron, a handmade especially for me apron in dazzlingly bright purple.
I loved this fabric…well actually I still do.
Best of all it still goes around my waist, and ties up I am wearing it now, as I type, really.
I cannot understand how this particular box of old stuff has survived so many moves and upheavals whilst others did not, a mystery?
My view master with the Cinderella movie reels…
and one of Spain?
Why Spain?
I think that was because one of my grandmothers at this time was partaking of foreign travels in the form of package holidays to the costa Brava!
……here are some views from inside the view master itself…..
My favourite Cinderella pics it was in 3d, very new at the time.
and some spanish ones,
spanish dancers…of course.
I loved the interior views of this room below….
Pick-up-monkeys, again why did these survive?
Looking at the colours today I can see where my love and fascination with primary colours began.
I loved the colours of these plastic monkeys….particularly this blue
I would sit and arrange them in endless patterns and colour combinations for hours and hours.
Lastly my portable organ…this is very old, I had it when Iwas four or less, alas it has lost its lid and the sheet music…but it still works.
Just look at the colour of those keys.
I found some other childhood clothes too, dresses and such like, they are adorable…. I am just looking for the pictures of me wearing them and then I might show you later?
Memories ahhhhh……
….do you have any of your childhood clothes or toys left? spill the beans…..
Bestest wishes for a rainbow bright weekend, it is pouring here.
