Look what my other half found and bought for me last weekend….
You might describe it as ‘NIB’ the americans call it ‘MIB’
(‘new in box’ and ‘mint in box’)
I call it astoundingly lucky….Clearly it had not been opened, ever!
The man he bought it from said it was in his Uncle’s attic for years and years…who knows?
We decided it was a wedding present to the said ‘Aunt and Uncle’ who neglected to use it because it did not match the ‘just married’ couple’s new kitchen decor?
….. surely back then one would not buy a brand new dinner service for six then not use it?
so it stayed in that attic, survived a leaking roof…
…someone wrote ‘keep’ on the box and they did.
Perhaps it even survived the couple?
… the seller appeared to be clearing and selling an entire house’s contents.
Until…
One early, beautiful, fresh and sunny Sunday morning it came home with another couple….
who photographed the proceedings, tenderly and excitedly unwrapping the contents of the box.
marveling at the packaging…straw indeed!!
The straw was probably older than them..
The Pyrex, proudly wearing its original labels, glowed and winked in the sunlight….
What a sight to behold…
I may have blinked away a tear…
We cracked open some ‘old rosie’ cider our fave…mmmm,
and toasted that couple…. celebrated a little piece of history and a very lucky find…
