A Simple Crochet Christmas Pudding

Are you sitting comfortably? then we will begin I am assuming for this simple crochet christmas pudding that you are a ‘basic crocheter’? as you will need to know the basic stitches of: chain, double crochet, treble and slip-stitch. If you don’t know these stitches, let me know and I will endeavour to show you in another post…..

I used mixed yarn, mostly wool and acrylic scraps I already had, The white and brown are double knit. I am not a huge fan of cotton; I find it splits and is not very stretchy?

To Crochet a Christmas Pudding You will Need;

I used a no.3.5 hook, you could use a no. 4 too as it makes up quickly. All worked in the round. all UK terminology.

Abreviations St = stich

rep = repeat

Dc = double crochet

Ch = chain

Tr = treble

dc2tog = double crochet 2 together for decreasing.

Handy Optional tools for your Crochet Christmas Pudding

I did use a little ‘garnish’ of glitter glue, on my finished pudding, as I love the stuff especially when combined with the simplicity of hand crochet. I find I can’t live without a stitch marker either, can you?

Round 1: 2ch and 6dc in 2nd chain from hook all around

Round 2; 2dc in each stitch around (12 sts)

Round 3: *1dc in next stitch and 2dc in next. rep from * to end (18sts)

Round 4:* 1dc in next 2sts, 2dc in next st, rep from* to end (24 sts)

Round 5: * 1dc in next 3 sts, 2dc in next st, rep from * to end (30 sts)

Round 6-7: 1dc in each st around, (30 sts)

Change to white in last stitch of round 7, fasten off brown,

Rounds 8-9: using white 1dc in each st around, (30 sts)

Handy Hint

At this point I like to flip my little ‘bow crochet christmas pudding inside out….I find it easier and all the little threads are then on the inside, but its up to you? .. then carry on as normal around.

Round 10:*1dc in next 3 sts and dc2tog, rep from* to end ( 24sts )

Round 11:* 1dc in next 2sts and dc2tog, rep from * to end (18 sts)

Round 12: *1dc in next st,dc2tog around, rep from * to end (12 sts) Stuff Pud, with any soft toy filler.

Round 13: dc2tog around until hole closes, fasten off white, weave in ends or hide inside pud by threading on needle and pulling inside tight before cutting and releasing end.

Now for the edging the ‘dripping icing‘. I did this by working in the ‘join’ between the colours, start where the join shows and work around like this….Join with a slip stitch So * 1 slip-stitch then 1tr rep from * all around to end and cast off, hiding ends.

Handy Hint Pull slip-stitch quite tight to get scalloped effect Stage one completed.

I will do glitter, berries and leaves tomorrow as its now to dark to photograph.Now for a little treat don’t you think? As its the evening, well its after 6! Mine is going to be a ‘chilled sauvignon blanc’ How about you?
