That Poncho from simply crochet Issue 25

I adore this poncho and have worn it many many times…..

It was love at first sight for me….have you seen….that Poncho from Simply crochet issue 25…?

Chunky yarn, a quick make and a new ‘ribbing effect’ to learn on the delightfully cosy looking cowl neck.

I liked the colours in the original, but I do like to put my own personality on a pattern, hence the colour change….

I did however stick to the neutral ‘parchment’ colour for the cowl neck, border and tassels, this way I can wear it with most things…..

The tassels were fiddly but worth it….I think

(I have noticed lots of ‘tassely trendy, things in the expensive shops…..)

The sun was out in my sewing room when I took these pictures….makes such a difference, so cheery.

so here it is….my granny poncho…so similar to the one my Mum made me when I was 7!!

A confession …..I have to admit, if I pull back the camera…….only half the tassels are finished…oops

I will finish it later and get the other half to takes some pics of me prancing around in it.

You can see the one my Mum made me HERE I posted about it in January this year….

You can read about the finished poncho HERE

Ooh lovely. I have an aversion to crocheting clothes. I should get over it!

  8. 25th November 2014 / 3:29 pm

I haven't seen the pattern in the shops but it looks fab! It didn't take you long to get on with it. My mother crocheted a poncho for my sister when she was about 10 years old. Many years later my sister asked me to crochet the same poncho for her – I still have the pattern. She didn't like it – thought it was too 'full' – and never wore it.

It's very you and I much prefer the colours you've chosen. Never had a poncho myself but would certainly have preferred one to the awful crimpelene suit my mother had someone make me!

Bloody gorgeous, now I'm wondering if I could pull it off too.

  13. 24th November 2014 / 6:34 pm

Oh I love that, I've been looking at that pattern in my copy of Simply Crochet and wondering if I could pull off a poncho.

I really love it, Daisy. The cowl collar is really different and it looks nice and warm.

Daisy, how could you. Now I have to get a copy of the mag and order the wool, and because it is free delivery over £25 I will be hooking for ages again, and I have the yarn for a blanket tucked away. Not to mention the Aran for a cardie or the Aran for hats and scarves. Shhh.

I have a vintage poncho pattern I picked up at a fair but I didn't know what yarn to use for it but stylecraft chunky is a great idea. I think it looks fab and I don't blame you catching some sunshine to take a photo – I would too. Jo x
